To go - ikimasu


negative form:

To go - ikimasen



Place + ni + ikimasu
                    ikimasen (negative)



* [ni] particle is placed after a place


Vocabulary:


  • department store - depāto
  • work - shigoto
  • party - pāti (no r sound mostly in Japanese)
  • station (train, bus, etc) - eki




Examples:


  • depāto ni ikimasu (to go to department store)
  • eki ni ikimasen (not to go to station)

*For, questions, just add [ka] at the end of the sentence




  • Question : pāti ni ikimasu ka? (to go to party?) 
  • Answer : hai, ikimasu (yes, will go)
  • Answer : iie, ikimasen (no, will not go) 
*Please note that there is no direct translation for English to Japanese and vice versa so just bear with the noticeable patterns

  • Question : shigoto ni ikimasu ka? (to go to work)
  • Answer : hai, ikimasu (yes, will go)
  • Answer : iie, ikimasen (no, will not go)

Vocabulary:

  • today - kyou
  • yesterday - kinō
  • tomorrow - ashita
  • day after tomorrow - asatte
  • day before yesterday - ototoi


Examples:


  • ashita depato ni ikimasu (tomorrow, to go to department store)
  • asatte eki ni ikimasen (day after tomorrow, will not go to station)
  • kino shigoto ni ikimashita (yesterday, went to work)
    • ikimasu (positive); ikimashita (positive past)
    • ikimasen (negative); ikimasen deshita (negative past)
  • Question : Ototoi depato ni ikimashita ka? (day before yesterday, went to department store?)
    • Answer: hai, ikimashita (positive past)
    • Answer: iie, ikimasen deshita (negaive past)



Points to Remember:


Sentence Structure:

place + ni + ikimasu (or other tense of the verb)

non-specific time + place + ni + ikimasu (or other tense of the verb)

To create a question, use the word [ka] at the end of the sentence.
