Verbs II:

to do (something) - shimasu



  • benkyou o shimasu - to study
  • shigoto o shimasu - to work
  • kaigi o shimasu - to have a meeting
  • kaimono o shimasu - to shop
  • jogingu o shimasu - to jog
  • pati o shimasu - to party
  • tenisu o shimasu - to play tennis



Examples:


  • Ashita tenisu o shimasu ( tomorrow play tennis)
  • asatte kaigi o shimasu (tomorrow will have a meeting)

  • shimasen (negative); shimasen deshita (negative past)

  • ototoi jogingu o shimasen deshita ( day before yesterday did not jogging)

  • Uchi de benkyou o shimasu (to study in the house)


* de particle used after a placed where you do something

  • asatte kaisha de kaigi o shimasu (day after tomorrow will have a meeting in the company building)
  • kino kouen de jogingu o shimashita (yesterday did jogging at the park)
  • ototoi depato de kaimono o shimasen deshita (day before yesterday did not shop at the department store)

with Mary - Mary-san to

*[-san] is placed after a name (not yours) to signify respect

  • Ashita kouen de Mary-san to tenisu o shimasu
          Tomorrow at the park, play tennis with Mary.
  • Kino kaisha de hisho to kaigi o shimashita.
          Yesterday at company building, have meeting with secretary.
  • Asatte gakko de tomodachi to benkyou o shimasu
          Day after tomorrow at school, will study with friend.
  • Ototoi kouen de Sumisu-san to jogingu o shimashita.
          Day before yesterday at the park, did jogging with Mr. Smith.
